Gratitude & Happiness

Baby Steps

Bis for Beginnings.

I’m new at this blogging thing. The very idea of putting myself out there, of actually publishing something for others to scrutinize, terrifies me. Yes, I’ve always dreamed of seeing my words in print someday, but I also assumed that day would be far in the future. You see, I have a problem. Β I’m a writer who suffers from dwelling in procrastination because I insist on perfection before anyone should read the gibberish I’ve managed to scribble down. Those nasty voices inside my head just won’t let go. Listening to their screeches in the background, I freeze; I block, and I stare at a blank screen. I grow tired of this fight and have decided to do something about it. The A – to – Z Challenge seems like the perfect opportunity to defeat this monster. So world, here I am!

As I am an amateur in the blogging world, it is taking me awhile to find my way around things. I don’t really understand how links work, what all that CSS/HTML coding stuff is or why my post won’t show up when an e-mail subscriber clicks on the ‘read more’ link. Setting up was fun I guess. It only took me hours of playing around with themes before I settled on one, let alone getting to the actual writing part. Social media and technology has far too many distractions for the ‘should be’ writer.

As I’ve discovered, simply from playing and doing, things will get easier with practice. For example, words and ideas begin to come easier as I let them flow free without worry, and just write. I click on a few buttons in the menus and nearly everything is automatically set up. I continue typing one word at a time, like baby steps, until my story is finished. I check the preview, Β and satisfied, breathe a sigh of relief. Done. Published! πŸ˜€

I would appreciate any hints or tips you have about blogging in the comments. Thank you.

  1. Angela, Welcome to blogging – You have gotten off to a great start! Love the template you picked as it reflects happiness and gratitude. Your posts are short (which I appreciate!) and well written.
Don’t concern yourself too much with scrutinizing! The people who scrutinize either will like what they find and the others will simply move on! My blog has changed over the years and no one seems to have noticed! I now blog to amuse myself so I’m the only one who scrutinizes!

Anyone who picks the Cookie Monster to feature is my kinda blogger!

  2. I came here because I liked your blog name, and I’m pretty sure I will return! I’m always in need of positive things, and by the looks of it, that’s where I can find them. Cookies and all, and I’m not talking about the electronic thingies that save your surfing history. The good stuff that crumbles!

    Anyway, happy A-Z blogging!

Thank you for your kind words. It took me awhile to work up to courage to finally get started. The A – to – Z challenge sounded intriguing and like a good way to get into the habit. I am certainly enjoying myself thus far. πŸ™‚

I’m new to blogging too. I get frustrated and a little down sometimes, but I just tell myself “keep going”. I’m doing the A-Z Challenge too. Can’t wait to see more posts!

  5. Welcome! I love the idea behind this blog. There are a lot of things we need that little bit of respite from, so I’m sure your blog will find its audience in no time.

I’ve made some wonderful friends through blogging, through comments on each other’s blog, but more now on social media – so as far as advice goes, I’d say to get on social media as well πŸ™‚

    Good luck xx

      Hi Z.R.

Thank you for your encouragement. I hope that my blog does bring people small moments of cheer. Yes, I agree, that social media is excellent for finding friends and people who share common interests that will support your in your endeavours, such as writing. I am on most of the other social media, but I have not linked up my blog yet.
